James Kottak (Scorpions drummer)
Savage Amusement is a Scorpions Tribute Band and being in the real Scorpions, I have been very fortunate and very privileged to see many, many, many Scorpions tribute bands. I hate to call them a tribute because it really minimalizes how good these guys are. I flew in to St Louis and performed with these guys and I gotta tell ya, these guys are excellent, one of the very top, if not the top, best Scorpions Tribute band. Musically outstanding and the vocals are incredible. Its really flattering to see a group of guys get up there and play your songs and you say, oh wow, they sound better than we do! As the biggest Scorps fan I know, I'm very excited that we have not only a Scorpions tribute, but the BEST Scorps tribute band right here! Their drive, passion, work ethic, expert musicianship and stage presence mirror that of the Scorpions and their 40+ year career. See them live, and rediscover everything that's cool about one of the world's greatest rock bands!!

I was totally blown away when I saw Savage Amusement perform live. I felt like I had stepped back to a better time in music when bands really rocked the arenas. Savage Amusement not only covers a great rock band and does them incredible justice but they also bring the crowd into the show as well. Probably the best cover band I have ever seen live. Pure energy and true passion for the music and the fans!! I honestly forgot I was watching a cover band....it might as well have been the Scorpions up on that stage.

I love this band, great guys and they pay tribute to a great band. When they play we are hearing the Scorps. There heart and soul is in the music they play. I consider it a privilege to work with a group of people who take music as serious as I do.

...i want to sit and watch... ...the band is just fantastic (and by the way, which one is Pink)... ...thank you for letting me be a part of your masterpiece...!

Whenever its hard to tell whether the band or the fans are having more fun, I think thats a guarantee of a good show. Such was the case when I was shooting Scorpions tribute band Savage Amusement. Since the band had contracted me to shoot this show, it was even better my job was easy: capture the rock. With such enthusiastic performers who were so obviously loving every second, I had a blast with this job.
Between all-access to a local band and as-good-as-no-access to a world-famous band of rockers, which would you take?
Not days before Savage Amusements show, I was shooting the Eagles in a stadium from the soundboard, shooting from behind some 50+ rows of standing, cheering fans. The night before that, it was shooting Sting again, a soundboard shoot.
Savage Amusements performance was on a much, much different scale, but ask me which one was the better show for music photography and the answer is simple. Add to the fact that contracted shoots (even for local bands) pay multiples more than editorial assignments, and its a no brainer.
Sometimes, bigger shows are just that bigger. But not better.
Love and shout out to the guys of Savage Amusement for making this such a fun job. I love photographing enthusiastic bands, so whether its KISS or Savage Amusement, count me in! Todd Owyoung - June 2010, POPs Concert Venue
